San Fernando, CA at a Glance
Over 200 years ago the community of San Fernando became the first to permanently
settle in the San Fernando Valley of southern California,
thus earning the title First City of the Valley. Since then the settlement
has been used as farmlands, ranch lands, a trading post, a gold town, and now
a vibrant center of manufacturing and commerce with palm-lined boulevards and
a sweeping view of the San
Gabriel foothills. While most of the towns in the surrounding area have agreed
to be annexed by L.A.,
San Fernando has always retained its independence, adding to a sense of local
pride as it both benefits from the modern conveniences of LA yet remains autonomous
in its governing. The area enjoys a Mediterranean climate with a mix of bucolic
and urban living. The historic site of Lopez
Adobe, once owned by the King of Spain, and the original San
Fernando Mission, which dates back the to 1797, both testify to the city's
long history.
